Vision Science Seminar Series
Honours students are expected to attend all Vision Science Seminars. These seminars allow students the opportunity to listen to internationally renowned scientists present on current issues and research. Seminars are held every Friday in Semester 1 and every Wednesday in Semester 2 during teaching weeks in the Amies Theatre at 12 pm.
Journal Club
All honours students are required to attend Journal Club as part of the Advanced coursework component of their Honours course. Journal club aims to provide an informal forum to discuss one scientific paper each week. The papers are generally chosen to highlight new advances in a field, critically review important older ideas, and to allow the audience to engage in scientific discussion and explore a topic chosen by each discussion leader.
Student Email
Every student enrolled at The University of Melbourne has a university email address assigned to them. It is important that students access this account – it will be the chief means of contact employed by the Department.
To find out how to do this, or to activate a unimelb account, please visit: http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/email/student/.
If you have any problems with your university email account, please contact Information Service via email: it-help@unimelb.edu.au
Student Information System (SIS)
Students can access the SIS to check on their enrolment status, update addresses, check exam timetables, booklists, results, register a HECS partial payment or access their Statement of Liability. For all SIS enquiries, email: sa-sishelp1@ unimelb.edu.au
Nathan Library
The Nathan Library is a specialist collection of books, journals and multimedia in the fields of optometry, ophthalmology, vision science and optics. It is available to all students of the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences.
Academic Skills Unit (ASU - formerly Language and Learning Skills Unit)
The ASU offers advice and instruction on academic and language skills. They offer specific classes to Honours students as well as individual tutorials for students.
Staff/Student Liaison
Staff Student Liaison meetings are held twice a year for honours and postgraduate students in the Department. These meeting provide a forum for students to give feedback and for staff to address any issues that the students may have. All honours students are invited to attend.
Enquiries
In most cases, the Department Office staff will be able to assist with any queries about your study. For general queries, please contact Ms Pianca Lun, Administrative Assistant (Postgraduate)
For academic-based queries, speak to your supervisor in the first instance, or to the Honours Coordinator, Dr Larry Abel.
