Optometry: transitioning to the Melbourne Model

As the University moves to the Melbourne Model, the current undergraduate optometry degree (the Bachelor of Optometry) is being replaced by a new postgraduate degree, the Doctor of Optometry which will begin in 2011.

2009 final intake into the 1st year of the Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom)
2010

no 1st year intake into the Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom).

Limited opportunity for entry into the 2nd or 3rd Yr B.Optom..

2011

first intake into the Doctor of Optometry .

Possible limited opportunity for entry into the 3rd Yr B.Optom.

2013 final graduating year of the Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom)
2014 first graduating year of the Doctor of Optometry

Applications for 2010 later year entry now open

The Science Student Centre is accepting applications from eligible students into the second and third years of the Bachelor of Optometry.

Note: there will be limited places available. All applicants must have completed study equivalent to the first year of the course for second year entry, and the first & second year of the course for third year entry: (Handbook: 785-BB).

The closing date for all applications is December 21, 2009.

Third Year Entry

As listed above plus the equivalent of 100-credit points from the 2nd and 3rd year of the Bachelor of Optometry degree.

# A subject would normally be considered to be equivalent to one-eighth of a year of full-time study = 12.5 credit points.
